Welcome to The Professional Development Stairway
The Professional Development Stairway provides a single framework for careers across the Logistics Sector. It works on the simple premise that if you enter the Logistics profession with or without relevant skills at Step 1, what is The Stairway you will need to climb to develop into more senior roles? What is more – how do your skills need to develop as you move up The Stairway in order to provide you with the competencies necessary to carry out your role effectively?
Developed by Skills for Logistics, The Professional Development Stairway is based on hundreds of these competencies that make up all the main jobs that are found in the Logistics Sector.
How do I use The Stairway?
Expand the graphic on the right of the screen and run your mouse over the different parts of each step. As you hover you will see a number of jobs highlighted.
If you already work in Logistics, find the job you currently do and click on the job title and see the competencies you should be expected to display in your role. If you move across the Step you will see other jobs at the same level. If you want to look at possible career developments, look at the next steps as outlined in the pathways diagram.
If you are thinking about a career in Logistics click on one of the job roles and check out the career pathways that are available.
If you are managing an operation, you may want to see the competencies that should be present in each job role – maybe in order to recruit somebody or to draw up a Job Description.
As you explore each role and each career step, The Stairway will also show you the qualifications and programmes such as Apprenticeships that are available and desirable for each role and will direct you to Training Providers who can supply the necessary training.
